Emirates Flight Fare Types: Special, Saver, Flex and Flex Plus

Emirates offers different fare types, including Special, Saver, Flex, and Flex Plus on eligible flights. These options differ in price, flexibility, seat selection benefits, and Skywards Miles earning.

The available fare types depend on the cabin and itinerary. Compare the conditions attached to each ticket rather than assuming that every fare offers the same benefits.

Special Fare

Special is generally one of the more restricted Emirates fare options and may appeal to travellers prioritising the initial ticket price.

Before selecting this fare, check:

A lower initial fare may involve additional costs for optional services or stricter ticket conditions. Compare the complete cost before booking.

Saver Fare

Saver fares provide another option for travellers comparing ticket prices. They generally offer more benefits than Special fares in some areas, but may still have restrictions compared with Flex and Flex Plus.

Check the applicable conditions for changes, cancellations, seat selection, and baggage. If you are comparing a Saver fare with a Flex option, consider whether the additional flexibility justifies the price difference.

Flex Fare

Flex fares generally offer more flexibility than Special and Saver options. Depending on the ticket and route, they may provide more favourable conditions for changes and cancellations.

For eligible Economy Class Flex fares, regular advance seat selection is included. Preferred, Twin, and Extra Legroom seats may still involve additional charges.

Flex may suit travellers whose schedules could change or who prefer certain benefits included in their fare.

Flex Plus Fare

Flex Plus is a higher-flexibility fare option. It generally offers more favourable change and cancellation conditions than the more restricted fare types.

In eligible Economy Class bookings, Flex Plus includes regular and preferred advance seat selection. Other seat categories, such as Twin and Extra Legroom, may still involve charges.

Compare the price difference with the benefits included in your specific itinerary before choosing Flex Plus.

Important: Fare availability and benefits vary by cabin, route, and ticket conditions. Emirates also offers different fare types across its cabins. For example, Premium Economy and First Class have different fare-type availability from Economy and Business Class. Review the fare conditions displayed for your selected flight before booking.

Compare Emirates Cabin Classes Before Booking

Your cabin class affects the seating arrangement, onboard services, and overall travel experience. Emirates offers different cabin options depending on the aircraft and route.

Economy Class

Economy Class is an option for travellers looking for standard seating and onboard services. However, the fare type can affect seat selection, baggage allowances, and ticket flexibility.

Compare the available Special, Saver, Flex, and Flex Plus options where listed. Check whether advance seat selection is included or charged separately and review the baggage allowance for your route.

Premium Economy

Premium Economy is available on selected Emirates aircraft and routes. It offers a separate cabin with a different seating arrangement and onboard experience from Economy Class.

Before booking, check whether Premium Economy is available on your selected flight. Compare the seat configuration, included services, baggage conditions, and fare benefits. Do not assume that every aircraft on an Emirates route offers this cabin.

Business Class

Business Class is designed for travellers seeking an upgraded onboard experience. Depending on the aircraft and route, features may include lie-flat seats, enhanced dining, and additional airport services.

Emirates offers different Business Class fare types on eligible itineraries. Compare the seat configuration, included services, baggage allowance, and ticket flexibility before selecting a fare. The onboard experience can vary considerably between aircraft.

First Class

First Class is available on selected routes and aircraft. It offers Emirates' premium cabin experience, with features and services that depend on the aircraft.

Before booking, check the available First Class itinerary, seat configuration, included services, and applicable fare conditions. If you are comparing First Class with Business Class, consider the specific onboard features and the difference in ticket price.

What Affects Emirates Flight Ticket Prices?

The price of an Emirates flight depends on several factors. Comparing these details can help you understand why fares differ between searches and travel dates.

If your travel dates are flexible, compare nearby dates where available. Review the total fare and included benefits before selecting a ticket.

What to Check Before Booking an Emirates Flight

A suitable Emirates flight depends on more than its displayed price. Check these details before completing your reservation.

Baggage Allowance

Emirates uses two systems to calculate checked baggage allowances: the weight concept and the piece concept.

Under the weight concept, your allowance is based on the total permitted weight of your checked baggage. Under the piece concept, the allowance is based on the number of bags and the permitted weight per bag. The applicable system depends on your route.

The weight concept applies to most routes, while the piece concept applies to flights to and from the Americas and Africa, subject to the applicable ticket rules.

Your baggage allowance also depends on your fare type and cabin class. Check the permitted cabin and checked baggage limits for your specific itinerary. If your journey includes flights operated by another airline, different baggage rules may apply to those sectors.

Advance Seat Selection

Seat selection conditions vary according to your fare type, cabin, and Skywards membership status.

In Economy Class, Special and Saver fares generally involve charges for advance seat selection. Eligible Flex fares include regular seat selection, while Flex Plus includes regular and preferred seat selection under applicable conditions. Twin and Extra Legroom seats may still involve additional charges.

If you do not select a seat in advance, Emirates will allocate one according to its applicable seating rules. Check the conditions for your selected flight before paying for a particular seat.

Flight Changes and Cancellations

Emirates fare types have different rules for ticket changes and cancellations. Flex and Flex Plus generally offer more flexibility than Special and Saver fares, but the exact conditions depend on your itinerary.

Before booking, check:

Do not assume that every fare is refundable or allows changes without additional charges.

Connecting Flights Through Dubai

Dubai is an important connecting point for many Emirates international journeys. If your itinerary includes a connection, review the arrival and departure times, layover duration, and connecting flight details.

Check whether your flights are covered under the same ticket, whether your baggage is checked through to the final destination, and whether you need a transit visa for your connecting journey.

For longer layovers, consider the time required for airport procedures and any additional arrangements you may need.

How to Choose the Right Emirates Flight Fare

The most suitable fare depends on your travel schedule, budget, baggage requirements, and preference for flexibility.

Travel Requirement What to Compare
Lower initial ticket price Special and Saver fares, including their restrictions
Flexible travel plans Flex and Flex Plus change and cancellation conditions
Advance seat selection Included seat benefits and additional charges
Long-haul journey Cabin class, seating arrangement, and onboard services
Business travel Departure times, cabin options, and ticket flexibility
Family travel Seating arrangements and baggage allowances
Premium travel experience Premium Economy, Business, and First Class availability

For example, a traveller with fixed dates and limited baggage may prefer comparing Special or Saver fares. Someone with uncertain travel plans may find it useful to compare Flex and Flex Plus, even if their initial prices are higher.

If you are travelling with family, check seat selection charges and the possibility of choosing seats together. For a long-haul journey, compare cabin features and baggage allowances alongside the fare.

The right option is the one that meets your requirements at an acceptable overall cost.
